Choosing a extra care supported scheme

Schemes in Tower Hamlets

There are six extra care supported housing schemes in Tower Hamlets, supporting people with a broad range of needs.

The care and support is provided by an organisation called Creative Support. Their service is monitored by the council and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to ensure that they provide services that are safe and meet your needs.

The landlords for the schemes vary as a number of housing associations own the buildings, some of whom have requested that Creative Support also provide the housing management service or have chosen to do it themselves.

Further information

All the Tower Hamlets schemes are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to provide care. The CQC website gives details of the type of care the care homes can provide and information on the quality of the care that is provided.

These three schemes are owned by the landlord Clarion Housing Group who also provides the housing management function. Donnybrook Court is based in Stepney, Duncan Court in Poplar and Sonali Gardens in Shadwell.

Each scheme has 40 units of accommodation, the majority of which are one bedroom flats, although Sonali Gardens has ten two-bedroom flats.

All the schemes currently support older people. Sonali Gardens has primarily supported people from a BME background.

Clarion Housing Group has confirmed that, in the future, referrals will be considered irrelevant of age and ethnicity, provided that the care and support requirements are compatible with the needs of the service.

Over time, we anticipate that the age range will reduce and client group will become more diverse. The focus will be on the delivery of a person centered service based on individual care and support needs.
