Each sheltered housing scheme has access to:
Housing officer
A housing officer will normally be allocated to each scheme.
They may be based at the scheme, or visit on a regular basis. They are usually available to contact 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Their responsibilities include:
- overseeing the day-to-day running of the scheme.
- undertaking health and safety checks.
- reporting and monitor any maintenance work and repairs.
- managing your tenancy. They will contact you over any concerns.
Assistive technology and equipment
Technology or equipment can be provided that could be provided to help you maintain your independence. This may include walking aids, telecare service, or equipment to remind you to take your medication.
Equipment s provided via a referral from social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists or other professionals involved in your care.
Telecare service
All sheltered schemes have access to telecare. This is sometimes called a community alarm service.
Tower Hamlets Council has its own telecare service and most of the sheltered schemes in the borough are linked into this. It is available 24 hours each day. As it is based in Tower Hamlets, a member of staff may be able to visit you in an emergency. Large housing associations or landlords may have their own telecare service.
