Physical disabilities

Physical disability is defined as a “limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina” that has a 'substantial' and 'long-term' negative effect on an individual's ability to do normal daily activities. (Equality Act,2010).

You are recognised as having a disability if you have a physical impairment that has a ‘substantial’ and ‘long term’ negative effect on your ability to do normal daily activities.

People with disabilities require extra care, support and assistance. In Tower Hamlets, the Council is committed to enabling people with disabilities to maintain their independence at home and in the community.

Services are available in Tower Hamlets that range from giving advice and information to long-term residential care.
