Carers Week 2026: 8 -14 June 2026

Building Carer Friendly Communities

About Carers Week

Carers Week is a national campaign that raises awareness of caring, highlights the challenges unpaid carers face, and recognises the invaluable contribution they make to families and communities across the UK. It also encourages people who may not realise they are carers to identify their role and access the support available to them.

An unpaid carer is anyone who provides free care for a friend or family member who, due to illness, disability, mental health needs or addiction, cannot manage without their support. The council has a statutory duty to support carers in the borough with information, advice, and practical support to help them in their caring role.

This year’s theme is ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ and focuses on the importance of creating environments across workplaces, schools, health settings, and neighbourhoods where unpaid carers are recognised, supported and able to thrive. Carer-friendly communities help reduce isolation, improve wellbeing, and ensure carers can balance their caring responsibilities with opportunities in education, employment, and personal life.
